The University of the UU直播-Caloocan marks its campus-wide celebration of UE Caloocan Week 2022, under the overall theme of “U Can”鈥攁 positive, abridged version of “UE Caloocan”.

While online activities for this year鈥檚 UE Caloocan Week festivities began last February 16, 2022, the 60th commemoration Caloocan City Day, with a Thanksgiving Mass, the bulk of the events will take place on March 1 to 5, 2022.

As with last year鈥檚 UE Caloocan Week, all happenings will be held entirely virtually. Nevertheless, UE Caloocan has lined up an array of online activities aimed at providing an enriching experience that will appeal to the intellectual and emotional well-being of the UE Caloocan community.

The opening activity is a Thanksgiving Mass, hosted by the UE Basic Education Department-Caloocan through its official Facebook page. The Mass starts at 9 a.m. today, February 16, 2022, and will be streamed live here:

The UE Caloocan Week 2022 theme is ‘UE CalooCAN’, and this reminds us of the importance of solidarity and gratitude that no matter what the challenge is, we are assured that we will thrive.

The rest of the activities of this year’s UE Caloocan Week celebration will be conducted in early March 2022.

UE Hosts International Webinar on Mass Media Role Amid Global Pandemic /cal/ue-hosts-international-webinar-on-mass-media-role-amid-global-pandemic/ Sun, 26 Sep 2021 23:29:28 +0000 /cal/?p=18093 On the occasion of its newest Diamond Jubilee, the University of the UU直播鈥攖hrough the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan鈥檚 Department of Communications in cooperation with the UE CAS Caloocan-based student organization Association of Communication Students (ACTIONS)鈥攊s hosting an international webinar titled 鈥淚n Search of the Truth: The Critical Role of Mass Media in a Global Pandemic鈥. This international webinar will be held on the fifth day of UE鈥檚 main 75th Foundation Anniversary week, September 29, 2021 (Wednesday), from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This momentous and timely webinar was conceived to bring together scholars from different countries to share their experiences and research outcomes on the critical role of mass media amid a global pandemic, along with talk on recent innovations, practical challenges encountered, and other allied disciplines. The holistic nature of the event is also envisioned as an opportunity for collaborative research.

There will be five main speakers on as many topics, namely Ms. Karen Davila of the Philippines, who will tackle the event鈥檚 eponymous topic of 鈥淭he Critical Role of Mass Media in a Global Pandemic鈥; Dr. Bunty Avieson of Australia, who will take on 鈥淲ikipedia鈥檚 War on the Covid Infodemic鈥; Dr. Porranee Singpliam of Thailand, who will cover 鈥淎 Cultural and Gendered Studies Approach to Understanding Inequalities amid Covid-19: A Case of Transgender and Sex Workers as Mediated through the Thai Media鈥; Ms. Esther Ho of Malaysia, who will speak about the 鈥淭he Intersection between Mass Media/Pop Culture and the Formation of Religious Beliefs/Identities鈥; and Dr. Augustus Ceasar D. Latosa of the Philippines, who will discuss 鈥淒isinformation as Crisis within a Global Health Crisis鈥.

Ms. Davila is a well-known professional journalist and broadcast anchor who has received awards internationally, including an award from the New York Festival and the Ten Outstanding Young Men Awards for Broadcast Journalism in 2008. She has more than 20 awards in professional journalism from local and international organizations. She was one of People Asia Magazine’s People of the Year in 2013. She was also recognized by the Philippine Senate as one of the Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS).

Dr. Avieson is a senior lecturer in the Department of Media and Communications at the University of Sydney. A former journalist and award-winning author, she has published three novels, a novella and two memoirs, which have been variously translated into Japanese, German and Thai. Dr. Avieson spent a year in 2008 to 2009 in the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, jointly funded by the United Nations and the newspaper Bhutan Observer, to teach journalists and editors, as well as to advise media stakeholders, as part of the country鈥檚 move to democracy. She also acted as a consultant to Reporters Without Borders鈥 Asia-Pacific desk. Her PhD explored the emerging media landscape in Bhutan, which continues to be a research interest, along with literary journalism, memoir and Wikipedia studies. Dr. Avieson teaches journalism in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, but is currently on research leave to undertake a three-year, Australia Research Council-funded project, investigating the development of the Dzongkha Wikipedia in Bhutan.

Dr. Singpliam is the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Deputy Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Language and Culture (BALAC) program of the Bangkok, Thailand-based Chulalongkorn University. She earned both her Ph.D. Cultural Studies and her M.A in Cultural Studies from the Graduate School of International Culture and Communication Studies of Japan鈥檚 Waseda University, and her BA in Language and Culture from the Faculty of Arts of Chulalongkorn University. Her research interests cover gender studies, Thai studies, media and cultural studies, body theory and feminist thoughts.

Ms. Ho is a Malaysian queer feminist theologian with a background in media, culture, gender and sexuality studies. She graduated with an MA Intercultural Theology from Germany鈥檚 Uni G枚ttingen and is currently teaching media studies at Monash University in Malaysia. Outside of class, Ms. Ho is fascinated by the possibilities when media, culture, and religious and gender identities intersect and shape who a person is.

Dr. Augustus Ceasar D. Latosa is a Senior Lecturer of the University of the Philippines-Diliman and a Professorial Lecturer of Far UU直播ern University-Manila. He is the Managing Editor of FRAMEwork: The Asia-Pacific Journal of Communication, and is a
John Harper English Language Specialist. Dr. Latosa earned his Ph.D. in Communication and New Media from National University of Singapore, and his MA in Speech Communication and BA in English Studies from UP Diliman.

This daylong international webinar will also feature five student researches and a faculty research study by UE CAS Caloocan constituents.

All Systems Go for UE鈥檚 Int鈥檒 Congress on Sustainable Enterprise Research /cal/all-systems-go-for-ues-intl-congress-on-sustainable-enterprise-research/ Thu, 07 Jan 2021 05:58:30 +0000 /cal/?p=15007 Following its successful inaugural research congress dubbed Congress 2020: Advances in Sustainable Enterprise Research held on January 20, 2020, the University of the UU直播 College of Business Administration-Caloocan (UE CBA Caloocan) will conduct the congress鈥 next edition this month. Titled 鈥淭he 2021 Advances in Sustainable Enterprise Research (2021 ASER),鈥 this international research conference will be conducted online from January 21 to 23, 2021.

As with the 2020 Congress, 2021 ASER will be co-convened by the University of the UU直播-Caloocan and Surabaya, Indonesia-based STIE Mahardika, with Australia鈥檚 Academy of Entrepreneurs as the virtual host. Just as with the 2020 Congress, 2021 ASER is a higher education forum aimed at gathering and disseminating research output from the scientific community in the field of sustainable business, with the ultimate goal of encouraging networking among participants from various institutions and countries while drawing up ideas in the field of sustainable business that can be realized locally and internationally. With 鈥淲e Can Change the World: Creating Sustainable Enterprises for Global Impact鈥 as the theme, the 2021 ASER will feature presentations and papers that will tackle valiant, inclusive and resilient鈥攁nd globally impactful鈥攅nterprises.

2021 ASER鈥檚 topics are divided into three tracks, with corresponding sub-tracks, namely:

Track 1: Entrepreneurial Strategies for a Post-Pandemic Future 鈥
1. Opportunities, Sustainability, and Impact in a Changed Global Marketplace
2. Digitalization and Social Media-Enabled Platforms for Sustainable Impact

The Congress鈥檚 call for papers was made open in 2020 to academics and researchers within and outside UE, its local and international academic partners, academicians and researchers from other HEIs, and research-oriented members and constituents of professional organizations such as PICPA, the government and our alumni, such as through the UE CBA Caloocan Alumni Association, Inc.

The 2021 ASER proper will be open to academics, researchers, professional organizations, business owners and managers, government officials and employees, and alumni.
