The University of the UUึฑฒฅ, through the College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan (UE CAS Caloocan), continues to offer the Bachelor of Science in Criminology with specialization in Cybersecurity! /cal/the-university-of-the-east-through-the-college-of-arts-and-sciences-caloocan-ue-cas-caloocan-continues-to-offer-the-bachelor-of-science-in-criminology-with-specialization-in-cybersecurity/ Tue, 08 Jul 2025 23:18:51 +0000 /cal/?p=19419

Whatโ€™s more: For school year 2025-2026, incoming freshmen and upperclassmen who will join the UE BS Crim student body can join for an outright payment of just P1,000.00.

UE Caloocanโ€™s fresh criminology degree program carries in its four-year curriculum cybersecurity specialization courses such as cyberspace and cybersecurity, information assurance and security, network and data communication protocols, digital forensics, machine learning in security, and security penetration testing and audit.

โ€œWe look forward to producing highly competent and upright graduates who can deliver efficient services in crime prevention, crime detection and investigation, law enforcement, public safety and criminological research,โ€ UE CAS Caloocan Dean Michelle H. Concepcion has said.

Check out the UE BS Crim program primer video here:

โ€œIn these times when digital and cyberthreats and attacks have become increasingly rampant, we hope to arm our aspiring criminology students with the knowledge and know-how to fend off and foil technology-aided crimes, whether perpetuated globally or locally,โ€ Dean Concepcion stressed.

With the Philippine National Police (PNP) recruiting thousands of new police officers every year and the heightened need for security workers in various fields, graduates of criminology are highly in demand.

The PNP is hiring thousands of personnel yearly, recruiting over 6,000 personnel in 2023 which has lowered the ratio of cops per person from only 1:500 to 1:125. With the proliferation of cybercrimes and digital scams in the country, the PNP has stated its plan to improve their response capability by capacitating their regional offices and police stations through trainings.

โ€œUE aspires to help provide the country with highly equipped professionals who can anticipate and address new and complex forms of criminality and who possess the needed character and competence to meet the challenges of globalization in the field of criminology,โ€ Dean Concepcion explained.

Aside from entry into the police force and other relevant government agencies, career options of criminology graduates include business continuity management and security management in the private sector, research in specialized organizations, teaching in the academia, security consultancies, and many others.

Republic Act 11549 has lowered the minimum height requirement for applicants to the PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Bureau of Corrections from 1.62 meters to 1.57 meters (5โ€™2โ€) for males and from 1.57 meters to 1.52 meters (5โ€™) for females, while granting height waiver for applicants belonging to cultural communities or indigenous peoples.

For the past 78 years, UE has produced hundreds of thousands of graduates, many of whom have excelled in their respective fields in the country and abroad.

Inquiries regarding its BS Criminology degree program may be referred to UE CAS Caloocan via call to tel. no. 83641497 or email to <cas.cal@ue.edu.ph> and <admissions.caloocan@ue.edu.ph>, and to the other contact details listed here: /cal/cas-curricular-offerings/

Thank you and we hope to welcome you to UE this July, future Criminology Warriors!

Team of Warrior Communication Students Win 2nd Highest Award at National Film Fest! /cal/team-of-warrior-communication-students-win-2nd-highest-award-at-national-film-fest/ Fri, 23 Dec 2022 06:01:01 +0000 /cal/?p=18782

Awang, an experimental-mystery short film by Awanggan Studios, which is composed of Bachelor of Arts in Communication students of the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan, bagged the second highest award, the Juryโ€™s Honorable Mention Award, at the recently concluded 3 Shots Film Festival!

Organized by MUD Studios, in association with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Cinematheque Center, the 3 Shots Film Festival is a showcase of compelling stories unveiled through just three shots or cuts, and which is visioned to create a vibrant community of filmmakers, professional and amateur alike.

The first and only three-shot film festival in the Philippines is juried by local and foreign award-winning film directors and personalities, including Chief Executive Officer of Fire and Ice Media, actress, and former FDCP Chairperson Liza Diรฑo; Los Angeles-based director Peter Mackie; Arvin โ€œKadiboyโ€ Belarmino, who is a 75th Cannes Film Festival CNC Pitch Awardee this year for his film project Ria; Arjanmar โ€œAstronoyโ€ Rebeta, who is โ€˜Harvest of Honorsโ€™ Awardee for Cinema by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts; and Emmanuel โ€œIbonmanโ€ Dela Cruz, Director of the Montaรฑosa Film Festival and founder of UFO Workshops Manila.

In its second year, the competition opened its call for submissions by early August 2022, attracting over 100 entries nationwide from amateur and professional filmmakers alike. The Film Festival formally announced its final winners at its award night held last December 14 at the Cinematheque Centre Manila.

Fourth-year UE BA Comm student Ruth Nicole Modina, Awangโ€™s writer-director, exclaimed that she never saw it coming. โ€œWe were hoping and praying to receive the award but we were not expecting it,โ€ Miss Modina said. โ€œWhen (director-jury member โ€œIbonmanโ€ Dela Cruz) finally announced the winner, I felt like I was lost in a trance.โ€

Awang, which is five minutes and 41 seconds long, depicts a dark metaphorical story about aiming for power and victory.

In the same competition last year, the UE-based production team was among the top 20 finalists for their earlier film Living, which was written and directed by Mark Jhon Villanueva. That film was also exhibited in Baguioโ€™s Montaรฑosa Film Festival last March 2022.

Aside from Miss Modina, the award-winning UE/Awang team consists of UE BA Comm students Mark Jhon Villanueva, (Cinematographer), Mary Louise Dery (Casting Director), Hazel Grace Juaton (Music Scorer), Joan Nicole Lazaro (Production Manager), May Ann Kaye Aniano (Actress, Editor) and Glaiza Macadangdang (Motion Graphic Artist). All are in their fourth year as UE college students save for Miss Macadangdang, who is in her third year.

The whole production extends their gratitude to all, especially in the UE Caloocan community, who provided and expressed warm, all-out support all throughout their filmmaking journey.

The photo shows (from left) Miss Lazaro, Miss Aniano, Miss Modina, Mr. Villanueva, Miss Macadangdang, Miss Dery and Miss Juaton.

Congratulations and kudos, Award-winning Warrior Filmmakers!
