UE Caloocan CSC Awarded as Most Outstanding Student Council by NUSP /cal/ue-caloocan-csc-awarded-as-most-outstanding-student-council-by-nusp/ Wed, 22 Sep 2021 06:09:19 +0000 /cal/?p=18090 The University of the UUÖ±²¥ congratulates the UE Caloocan Central Student Council (CSC) of school year 2020-2021 for being awarded as this year’s Gawad Edgar Jopson Most Outstanding Student Council in the Philippines by the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP)! The awarding took place at the 2021 NUSP National Congress on September 19, 2021.

Per the NUSP, the UE Caloocan CSC was recognized for its collective leadership, creativity and resourcefulness, impact on the students and the youth, and social relevance.

The Gawad Edgar Jopson is the only award in the country devoted to recognizing student councils as models of progressive leadership and social responsibility. It also aims to recognize student leadership amid the pandemic, and the efforts of student councils, the premier student centers in schools, in upholding a patriotic, democratic, and student leadership. The award was named after Edgar Jopson, an activist during the Marcos regime who served as the President of the Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral ng Ateneo de Manila, and of the NUSP.

Aside from the Gawad Edgar Jopson, the UE Caloocan CSC also received a special citation for students’ rights and welfare during the Congress.

The UE Caloocan CSC of SY 2020-2021 was composed of President Saida Manap, who is a current 4th-year Bachelor of Arts in Communication (BA Comm) student at the UE College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)-Caloocan and is the UE CSC President for SY 2021-2022; Vice President Samuel Pimping, a current 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) student at the UE College of Business Administration (CBA)-Caloocan and recently a participant of the 2021 Ayala Young Leaders Congress; Secretary John Micah Sanchez, currently a 4th-year BA Comm student; Treasurer Ashley Marie Domingo, a current 3rd-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) student of the UE College of Engineering (CEng’g)-Caloocan; Auditor John Lester Pueyo, a 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting (BSMA) student at the UE CBA Caloocan; Business Manager Exiquel Baclayon, a 3rd-year Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) student at UE CEng’g Caloocan; and Public Relations Officer Xyrille Guevarra, a 3rd Year BSMA student and the current CSC Secretary. Newly Licensed Doctor is First UE CAS Cal Grad to Earn Medical Degree! /cal/newly-licensed-doctor-is-first-ue-cas-cal-grad-to-earn-medical-degree/ Mon, 21 Dec 2020 05:05:59 +0000 /cal/?p=14618 Aside from the career professionals molded through the degree programs of our Manila and Caloocan campuses, the University of the UUÖ±²¥ has also been producing Warrior professionals in the medical profession through the years through UE graduates who go on to earn a medical degree from the UE Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERMMMCI).

One such individual is accomplished UE graduate Vergel V. Vergel De Dios Jr., whose latest in a long line of feats is in having passed the pandemic-era Physician Licensure Examination conducted in November 2020.

He is one of 316 newly licensed doctors produced by UERMMMCI, collectively contributing to the Medical Center’s 94.05% passing rate and rank as the sixth top-performing school of the Nov. 2020 Philippine Physician Licensure Examination (PLE). Dr. Vergel De Dios Jr. had earned three distinctions when he graduated from UE Caloocan in April 2014: the degree of Bachelor of Arts, major in Communication Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from the UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan in 2014; the College Distinguished Graduate Award; and the title of UE Caloocan Leadership Awardee for Men.

He was the first UE-Tan Yan Kee Foundation Inc. scholar of UE CAS Caloocan, and is the College’s first-ever graduate to earn the degree of Doctor of Medicine—an especially considerable achievement in that he was an arts major and not a science-related or allied health degree graduate.

As a UE Caloocan student, Dr. Vergel De Dios was the President of UE Caloocan’s Communication Arts Society (2013-2014) and was part of the team that organized both the Mr. and Ms. UE Caloocan 2014: Lindo Maravhiloso and the 1st Gawad Bagani sa Komunikasyon. After his graduation from UE in 2014, he worked at the ABS-CBN broadcasting company as a production assistant trainee for three months until he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a doctor through UERMMMCI, where he enrolled in 2015.

As a UERMMMCI student, Dr. Vergel De Dios was Secretary-elect of the UERM Medicine Student Council (2016-2017) and one of the 2019 Class Councilors (2017-2018) while being active in other extracurricular activities. After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from UERMMMCI in June 2019, he took his postgraduate internship at Veterans Memorial Medical Center from 2019 to 2020, and went on to be elected Vice President of the VMMC Postgraduate Interns’ Council.

Congratulations, CAS Caloocan Graduate turned Warrior Doctor! [Reporting by Prof. Jo-Ann Masungsong; visual by Ms. Rochelle Senaida] #WarriorAchiever #fUElingBrightFutures #TomorrowBeginsintheUUÖ±²¥
